Writers are Hired for MTV's "Scream" TV Show

Earlier this year MTV committed to a pilot episode for a television series based of of the "Scream" franchise. A writer had not been picked at the time of the announcement, but now we know who they have chosen to write the script. Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin have been hired to be co-writers. Both have previously worked on Criminal Minds, Mercy and Revenge. It has also been said that they have approached Wes Craven to direct the pilot episode. At the beginning of the year he wasn't ready to make a commitment.

Wes Craven:
“A lot of you have asked about the Scream TV series. It’s true I’ve been approached. My response was, it would depend on the script. If they have a great script/concept, it could be fun. If not, not.”
If the pilot episode is a success the Scream television show will continue on for a whole season. The plan would be for them to start airing in in the Summer of 2014.

Chucky returns in "Curse of Chucky"

America's favorite slasher doll, Chucky, returns in the new movie "Curse of Chucky". Instead of following "Seed of Chucky" this movie is a direct sequel to "Child's Play 3". "Curse of Chucky" ignores "Bride of Chucky" and "Seed of Chucky" entirely. The newest edition to the Child's Play franchise will be released directly to Blu-ray/DVD on October 8. The Blu-ray version can be pre-ordered here at Amazon. The IMDb plot summary for "Curse of Chucky" is as follows:

After the events of Child's Play 3, Nica, a young woman forced to a wheelchair since birth, has to regroup her sister, Barb and her brother-in-law, Ian for a funeral after the death of her mother. While dealing with Barb, Ian, along with their 5-year-old daughter, Alice; Nica receives an odd package - a creepy doll. After people start showing up dead, the fearless Nica soon suspects that the creepy doll is much more than just a doll.

The trailer above was released on July 8 and now has over 1.5 million views! There is relatively no information on this movie other than what is in the trailer. It is very unclear whether this movie will be a big success, or if it will be another sequel that recycles the same thing over and over again. I'm not too excited for this movie, but I will make sure to see it right when it comes out. The release date for this movie can still be up in the air. It originally was supposed to be released on September 24, but now the release date is October 8.  Make sure to keep an eye out for any release date changes.

5 Best Stephen King Movies

5.) Children of the Corn

Children of the Corn is a classic Stephen King film. This was originally a short story by Stephen King that was first published in Penthouse. Burt and Vicky, a bickering couple, decide to go on a road trip to California. As they are driving through Nebraska they accidentally run over a young boy who ran into the middle of the road. They discover his throat had been slit, and he was bleeding to death before they hit him. They put his body in the trunk so they can take him to the local police. They drive until they reach the small town of Gatlin. The town is completely empty, and everything is out-of-date such as calender dates and gas prices. There is something strange about this town, and Burt and Vicky soon realize the danger they are in. Children of the Corn was one of the first horror movies I ever saw. I saw this for the first time when I was eight or nine, and I have loved it ever since.

4.) Misery

Misery is a 1990 thriller based off Stephen King's 1987 novel. A best-selling author, Paul Sheldon, is on his way home from Colorado when he crashes his car in a blizzard. Paul is critically injured, but us rescued by nurse, Annie Wilkes. Annie is Paul's "number one fan" who takes him back to her remote home in the mountains. Unfortunately for Paul, Annie is a nutcase. When she discovers that Paul has killed off the main character her favorite books her reaction leaves Paul shattered (literally).

3.) Pet Sematary

Pet Sematary is a 1989 horror film, and a 1983 novel. The Creed family moves into a house next to a road used mainly by semi-trucks that drive way faster than the speed limit. Pets often get killed by the trucks so the kids of the neighbor hood made a Pet Sematary, but this isn't just a normal cemetery. This cemetery has special powers. When you bury something in the cemetery it comes back to life, but it doesn't act the same. It comes back completely different. It comes back evil and ready it kill.

2.) Carrie

Carrie is Stephen King's first novel to be adapted into film. It came out in 1976, and made $38.3 million at the box office. Carrie is about an abused teenage girl who discovers she has telekinesis. On the night of her prom she is voted prom queen as a joke. While she is receiving her crown she gets pigs blood poured on her. That sends her over the edge and her telekinesis gets out of control, and deadly.

1.) The Shining

The Shining is one of Stephen King's most famous movies. It came out in 1980 and made $44,017,374 at the box office. The Shining is about a family who become the winter caretakers of an isolated hotel. The son, Danny, sees disturbing visions of the hotels past using a power called "The Shining". The father, Jack Torrance, is slowly slipping into insanity as a result of cabin fever and former guests of the hotel "visiting" him. The Shining, in my opinion, is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. I highly recommend it to every horror fan.

8 Scariest Horror Movie Masks

8.) Vincent's Wax Mask from House of Wax

At first glance you think this is just a normal man's face but if you look closely you realize it's not just a face... it's a wax mask! Poor Vincent and his brother, Bo, were Siamese twins separated at birth. Vincent was left physically disfigured and mentally deranged. As a child his parents would abuse him because he was so out of control. Vincent's mom was the owner of the town's House of Wax when he and his brother were children. When their parents died Vincent and Bo took over the wax museum. To hide his ugly face Vincent created a mask out of wax. I feel bad for the poor guy he was so ugly that he turned himself into a walking candle.

7.) Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th

Camp Crystal Lake was just a normal summer camp until one day a young boy named Jason drowned in the lake because the camp counselors were not paying any attention. Everyone thought that Jason had died in the lake, but his body was never actually found. The Camp Crystal Lake counselors started a rumor that Jason was still alive and living in the woods after 20 years. Little did they know he really was still alive and ready to kill anyone in his path. Moral of the story is always pay attention to your job at camp to prevent from creating a psychopath who lives in the woods, and enjoys stabbing people.

6.) The Strangers

The Strangers takes place at a deserted house in the woods with no civilization within miles. A couple goes to the house for the weekend, and they run out of cigarettes. So the guy goes to the store to get more leaving his girlfriend all alone in the house. It's pretty self explanatory what happens. The strangers in creepy masks break into the house. I don't particularly enjoy this movie, in fact I find it expected and cliche, but I have to admit the masks are terrifying! A+ to whoever designed those masks because I didn't sleep for a few days after watching this movie.

5.) Michael Myers from Halloween

Oh, Michael you really messed things up for yourself. I mean you killed your own sister when you were six...and let's face it that DOES NOT mean you are on the road to success. Michael Myers was admitted into a psychiatric hospital shortly after the murder of his sister. He escaped 15 years later and returned home to Haddonfield where he stole a white mask, and blue coveralls. On Halloween night he stalked and murdered teenage babysitters. At the end of the movie Michael is shot in the chest six times, and then he falls off of a two-story balcony. PLOT TWIST! Michael is still alive and then continues to be in 7 more sequels.

4.) Edgar Allan Poe Mask from The Following

Okay, I know this isn't from a horror movie BUT LOOK AT IT! That mask is seriously one of the scariest things I've ever seen in my life! I used to love Edgar Allan Poe and his work until I saw that horrifying thing. Now all I think of when I hear his name is that horrendous mask! Other than that I like The Following I recommend it to any horror fan. Okay I'm done now.

3.) Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs

Coming in on this list at #3 is Hannibal Lecter, a.k.a the classiest serial killer in all of movie history. This mask is not only creepy and adds to horror of the movie but it is essential. When you think about it this mask is to prevent him from biting into your face, and eating you. So let's take a moment and thank this mask for saving many faces from being attacked. So thank you creepy mask! Sincerely, Everyone.

2.) Leatherface from Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Landing his spot at #2 is the cleverly named, Leatherface. What can be more spine-chilling than a mask made of human flesh? Well obviously the mask that came in at number one on this list is...but that isn't the point! The point is this thing is really scary! We need to give Leatherface props for wearing that thing. Who knows how old that flesh is? It's bound to smell really bad. I mean REALLY bad.

1.) Pig Mask from Saw

Finally at #1 is the Pig Mask from Saw! This mask seriously gave me nightmares...and I don't get nightmares. I didn't find the other Jigsaw mask nearly as scary as this one. This mask was used very wisely though! It was used for the jump scenes when he pops out of dark closets and abducts people. I had heard that Saw wasn't scary it was just gross, so I put off seeing it for a long time. I finally watched it a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. Saw is actually the scariest movie I have seen in a while. All in all, this mask is #1 because it's a pig head. Pig heads are scary, especially when they jump out of dark closets.
